Application Process

Thank you for your interest in Renbrook School. There are multiple steps in our application process, all of which are designed to help you get to know our program and to help us get to know you and your child. Our goal is to take a genuinely holistic view of each candidate in order to determine if they are a fit for our school in a given year. Each step along the way helps us toward that goal. Please examine the specific steps needed for each grade level application below, and note the admission timeline highlighting important dates. When you’re ready to get started, just complete an inquiry form, and you’ll be on your way!

Application Requirements

Preschool Applicants (children who will be 3 by September)

Online Application (please email the admission office to be given access to the online application)
Parent and Child Meet & Greet – A half hour visit with the Director of the Beginning School and a member of the admission team, during which parents will be asked to complete the School Readiness Form
School Information Form – To be completed by a current teacher or program director (this requirement is waived for any children not enrolled in a school program)

Junior Kindergarten Applicants (children who will be 4 by September)

Online Application (please email the admission office to be given access to the online application)
Classroom Visit – Student applicants visit a preschool classroom for one and a half hours, during which the teachers will complete the School Readiness Form
School Information Form – To be completed by a current teacher or program director (this requirement is waived for any children not enrolled in a school program)

Kindergarten Applicants (children who will be 5 by September)

Online Application (please email the admission office to be given access to the online application)
Classroom Visit – Student applicants visit a junior kindergarten classroom for two and a half hours, during which the teachers will administer our Kindergarten Readiness Assessment
School Information Form – To be completed by a current teacher or program director (this requirement is waived for any children not enrolled in a school program)

Lower School Applicants (Grades 1–4)

Online Application (please email the admission office to be given access to the online application)
Shadow Day – Student applicants spend the day with their current grade level peers
Academic Assessment – Students come to campus for an hour of academic assessment in reading, writing, and math. Assessments take place on Thursdays at 3:30 pm but can be scheduled at a different time if necessary
Teacher Recommendations – One recommendation is required for applicants to Grades 1-3 and two are required for applicants to Grade 4
School Records – To be sent directly from the applicant’s current school

Upper School Applicants (Grades 5-8)

Online Application (please email the admission office to be given access to the online application)
Student Questions and Essay – To be submitted online along with the application
Shadow Day – Student applicants spend the day with their current grade level peers
Academic Assessment – Students come to campus for an hour of academic assessment in reading, writing, and math. Assessments take place on Thursdays at 3:30 pm but can be scheduled at a different time if necessary
Teacher Recommendations – Two recommendations are required for all Upper School applicants
School Records – To be sent directly from the applicant’s current school
Testing – Renbrook welcomes standardized test results in support of Upper School student applications. We administer the SSAT on campus for our current students as they prepare for secondary school, and applicants are welcome to register for those tests as well on the SSAT website (scheduled monthly between October and January). We will accept other testing as well, including but not limited to the ERB, the OLSAT, and the Connecticut Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments, which are administered annually in CT public schools.

December 13, 2024 – First Round Application Results Shared
January 6, 2025 – First Round Contracts and Enrollment Deposits Due
March 1, 2025 – Second Round Applications Due
March 7, 2025 – Second Round Application Results Shared
March 31, 2025 – Second Round Contracts and Enrollment Deposits Due
April 1, 2025 – Rolling Admission (applications accepted if space is available)
