7th Grade Learned Some New Tricks

7th graders got a visit from Ben Garson, master trainer from Dogology and his dog Judah, a 100-pound German Shepard to discuss training techniques. This expands on the lesson about alpha dog vs. submissive dog and how to teach manners to dogs as part of their 7th grade dog unit in science. It’s always a fun and heart-warming way to bring learning to life at Renbrook!

Birds of Prey

As part of the 7th grade Life Science class, students got up close with three birds of prey. Along with the Renbrook School mascot, the red-tailed hawk, they also got an intro to an American Kestral and Saw Whet Owl.

Sixth Grade and Ancient Egypt

January 3, 2019

Sixth grade students wrapped up their study of Ancient Egypt and created Dioramas displaying some of their favorite areas of study during the unit. Some of the areas displayed included the Great Pyramids of Giza, Life Along the Nile River, Temples at Karnak and Tombs and Burial practices.

While the fundamental mission of school libraries, to empower students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners and readers, remains largely the same, school libraries are quickly evolving to adapt to these changes. As connected learning hubs, where collaboration and hands-on learning are encouraged, students learn to access, evaluate, utilize, and ultimately become creators of information.

18th Annual Heifer Marketplace Comes to the Renbrook Campus

Renbrook sixth graders Danica Q. and Meredith D. showed their support for Heifer International with their 18th annual Heifer International Marketplace on campus. Heifer’s mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth and Renbrook is the only school in Connecticut that offers an entire curriculum around Heifer International. Students learn to write letters asking for donations, and practice public speaking for the marketplace where students persuade visitors to donate. This year the students raised over $9,000

Since 1944, Heifer International has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. Heifer is currently working in 30 countries, including the United States, to help families and communities become more self-reliant. 5th Grade Gets a Visit from Plimoth Plantation Museum

November 28, 2018

5th grade welcomed the living history museum Plimoth Plantation from Plymouth, MA as part of their history program. Museum teachers talked about clothing, family roles, school, games, food, and farming. They came to their annual visit dressed in traditional clothing to discuss the Mayflower Compact. As part of the history program, students will create a colonial village and learn colonial skills, trades, professions, music, and dance, portraying characters from colonial times.
