If I assign kids a piece of writing, and I want them to dig a little bit deeper or get a little bit more personal and really engage, I try to complete the assignment myself and share it with them so that we are really engaged in a dialogue. I think that being engaged, being invested in what you’re doing, is just so important, and sharing with the kids like that is really helpful because then they’re willing to give so much in return.
