Neal K. “Buzz” Hauss ’71
October 2014 – Buzz Hauss ’71 attended Renbrook from Preschool through sixth grade and is a member of the Class of 1971. From Renbrook, Buzz went on to Kingswood Oxford and then Haverford College, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in British literature. Buzz earned an MBA from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business.
Buzz is President of HP Kopplemann, Inc., a wholesale newspaper distribution company in Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, and Waterbury, CT. At the helm of HP Koppelmann, Buzz forged a longtime association with Harc (formerly Hartford Association for Retarded Citizens) and the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind, implementing his company’s hiring initiative for people with disabilities.
Buzz is a longtime volunteer with the Jewish Coalition for Literacy, where he mentors elementary students in Hartford. In addition, he has served on the boards of Hebrew Home and Hospital, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, University of Connecticut Hillel, and Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford. He has also served as an advisory member of the Connecticut Bureau of Education and Services for the Bind State Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
At Renbrook, Buzz served on the Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2003 and again from 2006 to 2008. He served as a Corporator from 2003 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2013. He is a former Chair of the Renbook Annual Fund, former member of the Alumni Executive Committee, and former Alumni Co-Chair, along with Mary Thomson Russell ’73, of the Today’s Needs, Tomorrow’s Promise capital campaign.
Buzz and his wife CJ, who has also served as a Renbrook School Trustee and Corporator and as President of the Parent Association, are loyal Renbrook Fund supporters and the proud parents of two Renbrook alumni, Rebecca ’02 and David ’05.
