Eighth-grade student Christopher Joszczyk Receives 2020 Youth Honor Award
October 1, 2020
In an interview with Skipping Stones, Joszczyk stated, “The portrait of Chopin was a grid drawing piece and was inspired by my love of music, piano, and my Polish heritage. After drawing the portrait, I decided to write about who Chopin was as a composer, and I was given the idea to write a poem by one of my friends. Throughout my research process, I learned much more about the life and compositions of Chopin. Since I was already familiar with speaking Polish, writing my poem in Polish as well as in English seemed like a unique way to highlight Chopin’s background. I have played piano since the age of seven, so when I thought of who to draw, a Polish composer was someone I admired and was inspired by. The poem was another way for me to express my admiration for Chopin, as well as my love of writing.”
Joszczyk, an eighth-grade student, has his sights on a career in engineering or math.
