History Teacher

Renbrook School (West Hartford, CT), an independent day school for children age three (3) to Grade 8, is seeking an experienced teacher to fill a full-time history teaching position in our Upper School (Grades 5-8).

The successful candidate will possess the following personal qualities:

The successful candidate will possess the following experience and qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to history.
  • Experience working with or teaching children, particularly in an independent, day, college preparatory, or like school setting.
  • A love and enthusiasm for teaching middle or high school history/social studies.
  • A strong understanding of child development and the unique needs of middle school students.
  • Knowledge ofcontemporary learning principles and techniques.
  • A proven record of positive and constructive peer-to-peer collaboration and collegiality.
  • Skills, talents, and flexibility for contributing to an independent school community in additional capacities. For example: coaching sports, leading homeroom, advising extracurricular activities, etc.
  • Proven history of building positive relationships with and among students, parents and faculty and communicating effectively in person and in writing.
  • An appreciation for the power of diversity in the social and academic development of children and the ability to build a strong sense of belonging.

The review of candidates will begin immediately with an expected start date in August 2025.
